June 2006: Richard and co-author Mark Kobayashi-Hilary [
Wikipedia:
Mark Kobayashi-Hillary ] signed a contract with the publishing arm of the
BCS (British Computer Society) for a book to be published in early 2007 – it
will be titled The Level Playing Field and will present the current rapid
development of outsourcing and offshoring in a new business context.
June 2006: Intellect agreed to merge its Outsourcing Group and its
Offshore Group into a single Outsourcing & Offshore Group. Richard elected to
chair the new Group – his new management committee includes representatives from
Xansa, Emerthames, Rave Technologies, Atos Consulting, Fujitsu Services,
Northgate, Wragge & Co, Infosys, Alsbridge, HCL Technologies and Tata
Consultancy Services.

13th February 2006: Richard chaired an invited meeting at Intellect’s
offices on the topic of: “The Danish/Bangladesh SME Offshore Initiative”. The
challenge for the evening was “Why were 13 Danish IT companies at Bangladesh's
SOFTEXPO 2005? And why might the explanation be relevant to the UK ICT SME

16th January 2006: Richard, together with Prof. Mari Sako of the Said
Business School at Oxford, made a short invited presentation at a British
Computer Society Thought Leadership Debate at the Royal Society. The issue for
the evening was: The Knowledge Based Economy – what can the UK do to avoid
losing out to the Far East?

Bangladesh at the invitation of BASIS, the Bangladesh IT Industry association.
He led a workshop on the business development of ‘offshoring’, and was keynote
speaker at a seminar of senior business and government leadership on the
development of the Bangladesh positioning in the international ‘offshoring’
marketplace.

14th October 2005: The De La Warr Pavilion at Bexhill on Sea on the UK
south east coast re-opened to the public – with 10,000 visitors over its first
three-days of celebrations. Richard chairs the not-for-profit Trust that has
been responsible for this Grade 1-listed icon of the architectural Modernist
movement since 2003. It had been closed since mid-2004 for a major £8m programme
of refurbishment and new build. The Pavilion’s facilities include several art
galleries, an auditorium/theatre that can seat up to 1,000, a restaurant that
sits eighty, a bar, café, shop. A major regional centre for the contemporary and
performing arts, and for arts education, the Pavilion is open to the public
every day, with an extensive (and at times challenging) programme of events. For

3rd October 2005: Richard was the after-dinner speaker at the UK
Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) Pension Service IS/IT senior team
conference dinner in Newcastle. He addressed the conference theme of ‘New Ways
of Working’.

Resilience in the City, entitled ‘Can the City Really Survive an Attack?’ The

26 January 2005: Richard chaired a joint meeting of the Intellect
Outsourcing & Offshore Groups on the topic of 'UK Outsourcing & Offshoring -
Important New Business Contexts'. The two guest speakers were Elizabeth Sparrow
(on behalf of the British Computer Society) & Prof. Mari Sako, (the Saïd
Business School, University of Oxford). Elizabeth and Mari were the prime movers

supports work devoted to tackling the issues of the digital divide and social
exclusion. The 50th meeting of the Trustees was held on the 23rd November to
